“5 Brilliant Tips for Writing An Unforgettable Blog Post” will take you on a lively journey to discover the gold.
Yes, I know, you’ve probably read hundreds of other blogs that make the promise.
But, did they really give you the answer?
I thought not.
So, I invite you to travel with me on this short journey and I’ll share my 5 brilliant tips with you.
You can leave me a comment below and let me know what you think.
1. Want To Be Unforgettable? Craft A Compelling And Catchy Headline.
Be surprising!
Do you know about The Pareto Principle? Otherwise known as the 80/20 Rule.
It was first coined by Italian economist, Vilfredo Pareto, to describe the fact that 80% of outcomes were attributed to 20% of causes.
Why does this apply to your headline?
Generally speaking, 80% of visitors to your website will read your headline. Only 20% of them will go on to read your article.
You must grab their attention and give them a reason to keep reading.
- Asking a question in your headline is a great strategy.
- Quoting numbers will attract attention, such as “5 Brilliant Tips”.
- Story-telling is a sure-fire way to keep people involved.
- “How-to” headlines are always effective.
We wrote an article about catchy headline examples. You can find it here.
2. Follow With An Intriguing Introduction.
Engage your audience.
It’s not enough to just tell them what you are going to cover. You must do it in such a way as to keep them hooked.
Include an interesting quotation in your introduction.
If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you’ll work until you die.
Warren Buffet.
Remember a door that is slightly ajar will always be more intriguing than a fully open one.
Introductions by novelists are usually full of intrigue. This is because the objective of the first paragraph is to entice the reader to keep reading. Take a leaf out of that book.
Lee Child is a master at this with his Jack Reacher books:
From a helicopter high above the California desert, a man is sent free-falling into the night . . . and Jack Reacher is plunged into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends.
People don’t want to read long, boring descriptive articles.
Yes. Information is important, but so is entertainment.
Keep them entertained, and amused even, as they read your article.
3. Tell A Story Within Your Content.
Storytelling helps to build relationships and generate emotions.
Why does storytelling work in marketing?
It is especially true that people make purchases emotionally.
Human beings respond to stories. Just think about going to the movies. That’s storytelling at its best.
Television shows – also storytelling. Reading a great novel – story again.
As we’ve said above, storytelling creates emotion, and emotion sells.
When I started my first job as a junior stenographer, I never ever thought I’d become a writer. I was living in Singapore at the time – my father was in the RAF.
My boss was Squadron Leader Green and he was quite beastly.
We typed on manual typewriters with three carbon copies of everything.
He made me re-type everything even if there were no errors. In that case he would make a small change so that I had to re-type the letter.
Even though I despised him for it, I came to realize that accuracy and good grammar is more important than speed.
He had laid the foundation for my future career as a writer and website owner.
And, here I am.
Personal stories like this will always connect you with your readers. But if you don’t have one, make up a story to describe the benefits your product or service will bring.
4. Think About Who You Are Writing For.
Who is your ideal customer? Write for him or her.
Try to put yourself into the shoes of your customers. What would you want to read about?
Why has a visitor come to your website? Understand their motivation and write for that.
If you’re promoting a product or a service, write about the benefits to them, not the features of the product or service.
Address their pain points.
As the writer of a blog it is your job to be helping your customers. You only succeed when you help others.
Let them know you understand them and sympathize. Give them a solution.
Getting back to storytelling, share an anecdote that will help them to finalize their decision.
Be honest, be yourself and be consistent.
5. Enhance Your Blog Post With Images.
Of course, good writing is your primary goal, but enhancing your article with great visuals is a winning strategy.
Dr John Medina is a molecular biologist focused on the genes involved in human brain development. He says that people will retain about 10 percent of the information after reading the text in your blog post.
However, if you add a relevant and attractive image, they will retain about 65 percent of your article.
In addition to this, blog posts containing images are viewed 94 percent more than articles with just text. Check out this statistic from John Bullas.
These are very good reasons for including images in your blog posts.
Here are some of the types of images that you can use to illustrate your article.
- Photo images.
- Infographics.
- Videos.
- Graphs.
- Screenshots.
Nevertheless, you should choose your images wisely. You can design your own graphs and infographics on Canva, an online graphic design tool. This will help you stand out from the crowd.
Here is a graph that illustrates this blog post.
When promoting your blog via social media, you definitely need images to get noticed. Posts with images on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest are likely to get shared more often.
We have written an article about why it is important to incorporate images into your content. You can read about it right here.
Ending An Unforgettable Blog Post.

- We discussed the importance of storytelling.
- You must put yourself in the shoes of your customer when writing.

If you have an ecommerce site, you should know that 67 percent of consumers say the quality of a product image is “very important” in selecting and purchasing a product.
(John Bullas again).
So, make sure that, if you are promoting a product, the image is crisp, bright and attractive.

Hi Jenni,
Thanks for these great points. I especially like that you added samples to give us a visual of what you are talking about. I must admit that I am pretty weak on point #2, in writing an interesting and captivating introduction paragraph—something I need to work on.
The only thing I might add is that one should write in their own voice and tone (are you playful, conservative, detail-oriented, or no-nonsense analytical?
By the way, I am a huge Jack Reacher fan!
Mary Ann
Hello Mary Ann, Thank you for commenting on my article about writing an unforgettable blog post. I’m glad that you found it useful. I must admit that I, too, often struggle with the introduction. However, if you can find an interesting quote that aligns with your subject matter, that can be helpful. I take your point about being yourself.
Me, too, I think I’ve read all the Jack Reacher books!
Best wishes, Jenni.
This is amazing! I kind of have a sense for some of what you wrote, but it’s great to see it summarized so well! It’s definitely a challenge not to have a boring blog post.
I like the idea of putting quotes in the introduction and possibly the conclusion. I haven’t done that so much, but I can see that that would have a good effect!
I really should take a lot of these points to heart. Thanks!
Hi Dan, Thank you so much for your positive comments on my article about writing an unforgettabgle blog post.
Relevant quotes can certainly add interest to your blog posts. Appreciate you stopping by. Best wishes, Jenni.
Thank you for these great points. I am always seeking to improve my writing skills in my blogs so as to make them more compelling. In the past, I have been an English and composition teacher, so I believe grammar and accuracy is important. There are times though, where I feel like my hang ups as a teacher may slow me down and make me dwell to much on perfection.
One thing I’ve noticed with blog writers is that they don’t employ lengthy paragraphs. Your article for example may have only one or two sentences before a double space and a new paragraph. Is that what is considered good form for blogs now? I am not asking this in a critical tone. I wonder if I need to adjust my writing style. I would share my website so you could see it, but I don’t want to spam your site. I would welcome some modern-day, blog-writing tips. I am sure an old dog could learn some new tricks!
(P.S.) My paragraphs pretty much look like what you see above. Some are even longer.)
Scott
Hello Scott,
Thanks for your great comment on my article about writing an unforgettable blog post.
I do agree with you that spelling and grammar are very important and one cannot always rely on spellcheck tools. Best to always proof read before publishing.
In the Wealthy Affiliage training, Kyle recommends keeping paragraphs to one or two lines, often just a single sentence.
People reading online can be put off by large blocks of text. They will often want to skim-read first to see if they want to take in the whole articel.
Plenty of whie space on your page or post will make it more attractive and encourage this.
Best wishes,
Jenni.
