In this article we discuss why you need good keywords for your website.
But finding good keywords isn’t as easy as you might think. A lot of research is involved.
If you want Google to find your blog posts, then you must start by using Google for research.
Why do you need good keywords for your website? A website without relevant keywords won’t get the kind of search engine traffic you want and will never get noticed by the users who are looking for it in the first place. Even though you may have decided upon one good keyword, it is likely that search engines will find your article utilizing a number of similar keywords. So, doing good keyword research is vital to getting found by search engines.
1. What Are Keywords?
A keyword is a word or phrase used to search something online.
It is simply a word or phrase that describes what you do or offer. It’s a search term people would use to find products and services like yours online

For example: running shoes. If you were trying to find running shoes, you would plug running shoes into Google or Bing and that would take you to websites where people were selling running shoes.
Website owners want visitors to come to their sites and make purchases, so they use keywords to help people find them.
So if your website has great keywords that lots of people use when looking for what you offer, then it will be easier for your website to get ranked by the search engines.
The aim of using good keywords is to get your website ranked on Page 1 of Google.
2. Why Is Keyword Research Important?
Keyword research is important because, using the right keywords can make a huge difference to the success of your website in search engine rankings.
Think about it—the more specific your keywords are, the easier it will be for potential customers to find you through search engines like Google or Bing.
You’ve, no doubt, heard about SEO (search engine optimization). SEO relies upon finding keywords within the content on your website, to place you in a good position on search engines.
To help rank higher in searches, websites should have a mix of both short and long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords can have up to 10 words in the phrase, whereas short keywords are only one or two words, at most. You can be more specific with long-tail keywords.
Taking the above example of “running shoes” – that is a short keyword. But just by adding a few more words, it illustrates exactly what you are seeking: “best running shoes for women”.
So this is why keyword research is important.
3. How You Can Find Good Keywords.
So how do you find good keywords? There are several ways to start keyword research.
The best way to begin your research is to actually use Google itself. When you get your search results for “running shoes for women”, scroll down the page to the “People Also Ask” section and you will get even more specific questions to which people are seeking answers.

Then, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find searches related to your search topic:

These two sections can give you a range of questions (long-tail keywords) that you can answer within your blog post, or as topics for other articles.
Using search engines to understand what people are searching for online, is a good starting point. However, you will need further information about those particular topics. And this is where a keyword research tool is very useful.
4. The Best Keywords Are Those With Low Competition.
Low competition keywords are those phrases that are searched for less often and have fewer websites already using them.
This is why long-tail keywords are preferable to get traffic (visitors) to your website. The competition for such keywords is usually lower than for short keywords.
You do not need to use keywords with thousands of searches to get ranked on Google. Those keywords have many websites already using them and you would be hard-pushed to even get on the first 20 pages.
Most people searching on the internet do not go beyond page 2 when searching.
Google provides an average of 10 results on each search page, and this is usually enough for them to find what they are looking for.
The advantage of using long-tail keywords is, because they are more specific, they are unlikely to appear on too many other websites.
Thus, you will have lower competition for your choice.

5. Why You Should Use A Keyword Research Tool.
We have discussed above that you should definitely start your keyword research using Google. This will give you a range of questions and topics that are close to your chosen keyword.
Once you have chosen your long-tail keyword from Google, you need to find out how much competition there is for that particular keyword, and how often it is searched.
This is why you should use a keyword research tool. A good one will give you this information.
Selecting a keyword research tool can be challenging. There are so many tools out there that it can be overwhelming to choose a good one.
A good Keyword Research Tool is Jaaxy and it is the one we recommend. It is a comprehensive keyword research tool that allows you to quickly find hundreds of long tail keywords related to your main topic.
In addition to this, Jaaxy gives you statistics on the following:
- Avg: The average number of searches on Google each month.
- Traffic: The number of website visitors you can expect monthly if you are ranked on Page 1.
- QSR: Quoted Search Results – the number of competing websites ranked in Google for this keyword.
- KQI: Keyword Quality Indicator – Green-Great, Yellow-Okay, Red-Poor.
- SEO: SEO score 1-100 – the higher the score, the more likely you will rank on Page 1.
This can help you decide on which version of the long-tail keyword to use. Competing websites should preferably be under 50 and the higher the SEO score the better.
Here is an example of researching the “best running shoes for women”:

You will see at the top of the list the phrase “best running shoes for women” has 6,147 searches each month. There are 122 other websites competing for this exact phrase. And the SEO score is 87. I probably would not use this keyword.
Alternatively, at the bottom you will find “what are the best running shoes for women” with 144 monthly searches. It has only 29 other websites using it, and its SEO score is 92. This would be my choice because it is definitely a low-competition keyword.
6. What If I Don’t Have My Own Website Yet?
