If you are asking the question “what is a blog business?” you will probably also have many other questions relating to this topic.
For example, you may want to know about business blogs and what is the difference between that and a blog business. You may wonder whether a blog can be profitable
Or even if a blog can actually make money.
So, it is our aim to discuss and answer all these questions for you so that you will have plenty of information to make a considered decision on whether to move forward with a blog business.
It was when the World Wide Web began, back in 1994, that the term “blog” was conceived. It is actually a shortened version of “weblog” and was originally used as a personal journal or diary of events in one’s life. Over time, this personal blog idea transformed into a way of making an income online. Bloggers publish content on their websites that describe products or services available to their customers. To be successful, the blog needs to be found by search engines and rank highly in search results. Grabbing the attention of potential customers is crucial to a successful blog business.
What Is A Blog Business?
A blog business does not have a physical presence, such as a department store or a corporate office. Rather, it is an online business.
The owner of a blog business will identify a particular segment of the online market in which to concentrate the business. This is known as a niche.
Once a blogger has decided upon a niche, they can get their business up and running with a website. The name of the business, then, should be a reflection of the niche. This is the domain name of the website.
Now it is time to start writing some quality content about the products or services being promoted. It is important to build some authority in your chosen niche, so that customers can trust you.
These articles are known as blog posts and with the use of great keywords, you can get your posts ranked by search engines such as Google. See an explanation of keywords in our blog post right here.
When your website gets ranked by Google or other search engines, such as Bing and Yahoo, you will start to attract traffic (visitors/customers) to your website.
There is much to learn about setting up a successful online blog business. If you are tempted to learn more about this, click on the image below for further information.
Is A Business Blog The Same?
No it is not.
Many corporations have websites for the purpose of marketing and informing the public about their organization.
The corporate website will normally describe information about the company, the team, the products available, and even more.
One section of the corporate website will often be devoted to a Corporate Blog. This is where it will provide industry information, new product launches, media news and other information.
So, as you can see, it is certainly not the same as a blog business, even though the terms sound similar.
Is Blogging A Profitable Business?
It can be!
One of the things that I want to stress here is that while a blog business can be highly profitable, it is not a “get-rich-quick” scheme. Actually, there is no such thing!
Building a blog business to profitability will take time and perseverance on your part. And, if you are prepared to put in the work and time necessary, you will reap the benefits long-term.
So, let’s discuss how you can make money from a blog business. There are a number of ways of doing this:
- Affiliate Marketing is one of the most popular and cost effective methods.
- Create and publish your own eBooks on Amazon Kindle.
- Stock Trading – find a suitable online app to teach you the game.
- Online Surveys – but taking surveys online will probably earn you cents not dollars.
- Arts & Crafts – if you are an arty person, you can sell your works online.
- Dropshipping – set up your own online store.
- If you are a great writer – you can sell your services as a freelance writer.
- Hosting Ads on your blog posts.
These are only a few ideas of ways to earn money online with your blog business.
My personal preference is for Affiliate Marketing because it is very easy to get started and costs almost nothing.

Finally, Here Are Some Advantages and Disadvantages.
It would not be fair, if I did not outline some of the advantages and disadvantages of establishing a blog business. So here are a few for you to consider.
First the good things:
- You will become your own boss.
- Eventually, you may be able to ditch the day-job.
- Earn income through affiliate commissions, ads, etc.
- You only need a laptop and internet access to run your business.
- Work from home (or anywhere else with internet access).
- You can work at your own pace to learn everything.
- More flexibility in your work hours.
- More time to spend with your family and friends.
Now for the not-so-good:
- It will require a huge investment of your time.
- There is no such thing as a get-rich-quick scheme.
- You must make a commitment to learning the online business.
- Only paid membership will lead you to success.
So, if you weigh all these up, there are definitely more advantages than disadvantages to establishing a blog business.
I’ve always been fascinated by blogs and, more specifically, how to make money with them. I like how you write about blogging and how you can make money from it. With that being said, how long have you been blogging, and what drew you to it? I’ve always been inquisitive. Thank you for the information; it was very useful.
Hi Kiersti, Thanks for your comment and I’m glad you found my article useful. I’ve been in the business for about 3 years, two of them with a different organization than Wealthy Affiliate. I love being my own boss and working online. The flexibility is really just the best part (not being committed to the 9-5 drudge).
There are many different types of blogs and you have covered some of them thoroughly. I like the idea of doing a blog and your explanation has made me see that it is not as difficult as I envisioned it to be. Making money with it would be a good way to utilise some free time that is available. understanding that it can take time to make any money seems to be the biggest reason that people quit according to stats from Google. I guess you would need to change your mindset where that is concerned?
Thanks for your comment on my article, “what is a blog business”, Lisa. I really appreciate you taking the time to read it and give me some feedback. One of the most important things about setting up a blog business is to be in it for the long haul. It takes quite a bit of time to build your website to have some authority. So, indeed, as you suggest, you do need to begin with the right expectations, i.e. mindset.
